John Haynes will be showing slides of his return visit to Murmansk Russia.
John enlisted in the US Navy in 1941 and applied for Naval Aviation.
Before he could get to flight school he was assigned as an
armed guard on a merchant ship taking part in Convoy PQ-13
to Murmansk Russia. Of the 22 ships taking part on that run 12 were
lost to enemy action. He was later assign to flight
school and got his wings as a Dive Bomber Pilot. His group
prepared for the invasion of Japan when the war ended.
